Broner announces Local Area Scheduling capability
Broner Metals Solutions, has announced a Local Area Scheduling solution that can rapidly re-schedule individual processes or plant areas when production disturbances and deviations occur. This ensures production cost can be minimised without jeopardising on-time delivery when re-scheduling individual processes or plant areas due to production or quality deviations.
The local area scheduling capability will generate new schedules based an real-time inventory availability and quality status and also considering temporary production restrictions such as roll marking or rolling stand outage. Response time is rapid, allowing “what-if” evaluation of alternative local area schedules to determine the optimum response to production or quality events.
Tim Hurn, Business Development Director at Broner Metals Solutions, says “Local scheduling systems often consider only current inventory and local constraints. This can result in unbalanced inventories at downstream lines, resulting in their poor utilisation, increased cost of set-ups and degraded on-time delivery and unnecessary inventories. The Broner Local Area Scheduling uses integration with a plant wide production schedule to strike a balance between optimisation of the local process without jeopardising the performance of the overall plant”.
David Mushin, Chief Executive of Broner Metals Solutions, said, “Broner has 30 years experience in providing supply chain solutions for metals, which has resulted in a wide range of solutions which address the complexity and unreliability of the steel making process. The Local Area Scheduling capability is a further enhancement which will help steelmakers overcome uncertainties within the production supply chain and maximise performance.”
